Support Dan Viesnik Southwark Crown Court on Thursday (7 Aug)

Pete sent me this! Spread the word.

Dan Viesnik a green activist (who left GP after the
leadership referendum) will be on trial this thursday,
he'd appreciate support if anyone can make it, details
below

Dear Shahrar, Brian, Martin, Pete, Matt, Miranda and
Madeleine,

Just to let you all know that I am now back in north
London, having successfully completed the 1000+ mile,
12-week Footprints for Peace / Sortir du Nucleaire
stroll across the English and French countryside from
London to Geneva for a world free of nuclear power and
atomic and uranium weapons.

In addition, sorry for the short notice, but I am due
at Southwark Crown Court on Thursday (7 Aug) for the
re-trial against my conviction in February for
obstructing a police officer during a stop and search
at the time of my friend Irene's peaceful silent vigil
outside Downing Street last September against the DSEi
arms fair. I think the large crowd of well-wishers at
the original trial at City of Westminster Magistrates'
in February helped to make the district judge more
sympathetic towards me than she might otherwise have
been, and I was at least acquitted of obstructing the
highway. But police harassment, intimidation and
violence against activists and media (both independent
and mainstream) reporting on contentious political
protests continues unabated, with abuse of
anti-terrorism and public order powers commonplace, so
it's up to people like you and me to rigorously defend
our civil liberties.

Any moral support would be much appreciated,
especially since my mother will be away. The trial is
due to begin on Thursday morning (10am) and could
carry on into Friday (but probably unlikely). The
court is located very close to Tower Bridge and City
Hall. The address is:

1 English Grounds
(off Battlebridge Lane)
Southwark
London
SE1 2HU

(Nearest tube: London Bridge or Tower Hill)

Hope to see some of you there on Thursday, or at
Climate Camp. Please spread the word.

Cheers,
Dan
